HealthPRO launches contract for Professional Telepharmacy Services

On December 1, 2017, HealthPRO launched a contract for Professional Telepharmacy Services, the first service-based contract in its Pharmacy portfolio.

This important new offering, initiated by the North East Local Health Integration Network (NE LHIN), was developed in response to standards set forth by the Ontario College of Pharmacists and Accreditation Canada, requiring hospitals to have round-the-clock access to a pharmacist and to have all new medication orders reviewed by a pharmacist before administration of the first dose to a patient.

“This service, which employs a pharmacist-sharing model, supports enhanced medication safety by helping to ensure the right medication in the right dose goes to the right patient," says Jamie Fiaschetti, Patient Care Manager, Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services.

The Professional Telepharmacy Services contract has been awarded to North West Telepharmacy Solutions and includes clinical review and verification of medication orders and on-call services to answer questions about medications and medication management, in addition to providing additional consulting services and administrative support.

The contract term spans December 1, 2017 to November 30, 2019 and is open for commitment to Ontario HealthPRO members.

This important service contract will help Ontario hospitals reach a higher level of compliance with increasing patient safety standards.
